Here are some tips for caring for bamboo sharks in captivity:
Tank size
Bamboo sharks are well suited for aquariums, but the size of the tank depends on the shark's size. When fully grown, a bamboo shark can grow to be about 37 inches long, so a 300 gallon tank is generally recommended. However, smaller tanks can be used while the shark is growing, and floor space is more important than volume. For example, a 180 gallon tank with a larger footprint may be better than a tall 300 gallon tank.
Tank stability
To prevent injury to the shark and its tankmates, make sure all items in the tank are stable.
Diet
Bamboo sharks are carnivores and should be fed a meaty diet of fresh shrimp, squid, scallop, and marine fish flesh. You can also soak their food in liquid vitamins and provide iodine supplements to prevent goiter disease. Because they are docile, they may not compete well for food with aggressive feeders.
